2002 press releases
CARLSTADT, N.J. - December 9, 2002 - Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced the hire of recognized PDF and digital workflow expert Michael Jahn as Evangelist for PANTONE Hexachrome®, the company's patented high-quality six-color printing process.

As Hexachrome Evangelist, Jahn will serve as the project manager for the Authorized PANTONE Hexachrome Printer program, including but not limited to Pantone's marketing alliance with Sun Chemical Inks (GPI) for the North American narrow web flexographic label printing market. Jahn will develop white papers and training programs, as well as be a spokesperson and educator.

"With the increasing adoption and advances in today's color-critical digital workflows, Michael Jahn's experience and knowledge of PDF/X standards and specifications will help the Pantone team deliver a world-class solution to a market that is ready to transition from a CMYK to an RGB color space," stated Richard Herbert, president of Pantone and inventor of Hexachrome.

"I enjoy the challenge of helping a company with vision to explain a technology whose benefits may not be fully understood," explained Jahn. "In 1995, no one believed PDF could be used in high-end prepress workflows. I am thrilled to be the one to evangelize how industry standard PDF/X-3 files can be used in workflow systems for proofing, film and direct-to-plate using Pantone's technology."

Prior to Pantone, Jahn held the title of Certified PDF Evangelist at Enfocus Software, where he worked in cross-media publishing, creating smart documents that work for both the Internet and publishing. Previously, he served as a consultant to Agfa, working closely with its engineering and marketing divisions and other OEM and ISV partners to develop a PDF workflow tool called Agfa Apogee Create.

Developed by Pantone, Hexachrome is a high-quality printing process that uses reformulated CMYK, plus orange and green. This six-color process has twice the gamut of conventional CMYK and reproduces over 90% of all solid PANTONE Colors. Hexachrome offers distinct economic and marketing advantages to both printers and their clients. Its broader color gamut allows printers to build efficiencies into the workflow by eliminating the need for additional spot colors. Hexachrome also allows printers to differentiate themselves from their competitors and increase sales by offering clients superior results at competitive prices.
