The Pantone Color Institute is proud to have helped the United Nations Women’s Solidarity Movement for Gender Equality select PANTONE 18-1945 Bright Rose as the perfect color for their new campaign ‘HeForShe’.

UN Women is the UN organization dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women. They have initiated a global movement to spread the message that “Gender equality is not only a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue”.

HeForShe reached out to the experts at the Pantone Color Institute to help select a color that energized and unified their cause.

As men begin to identify and join with issues more closely associated with women, stereotypical color usage is beginning to melt away. While over the last 100 years pink shades have traditionally been seen as a sensitive expression of femininity, in the 21st century pink has a contrasting function and we are seeing strong, hard shades of pink replacing red with a different call to arms. Hot pinks and fiery red based pinks voice a call for new causes. Representative of this shift is the magenta shade, PANTONE 18-1945, Bright Rose.

Bold and bright, PANTONE 18-1945, Bright Rose, is a tantalizing magenta hue that immediately commands our attention. While Bright Rose is considered the deepest and most luxuriant of pink shades, its underlying red base symbolizes the heart, conveying passion, excitement and confidence. At the same time because of its pink influence, the dynamic magenta Bright Rose radiates a message of youthfulness and high energy. Viscerally alive, iconic and fresh, daring and courageous Bright Rose walks the fine line between red and pink as well as that same fine line between male and female, making it the ideal shade to speak to the elimination of gender inequality and represent “HeForShe”.

“Now it’s time to unify our efforts. HeForShe is a solidarity movement for gender equality that brings together one half of humanity in support of the other half of humanity, for the benefit of all.”
