Pantone Color Institute Releases Spring 2018 Fashion Colour Trend Report
For London Fashion Week

Unexpected colour palette encourages opportunity for self-expression with 12 call out shades and 4 seasonal classics

LONDON, 14 September 2017 – Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company and the global authority on colour and provider of professional colour standards for the design industries, today announced the PANTONE® Fashion Colour Trend Report Spring 2018 edition for London Fashion Week. Published for the fashion industry by the Pantone Color Institute, a trend forecasting and colour consultancy, the report features the top colours we can expect to see from fashion designers on the runway for the upcoming spring collections.

Celebrating exploration and experimentation, the PANTONE Fashion Colour Trend Report Spring 2018 edition for London, which features the top 12 colours for men’s and women’s fashion, underscores colour’s continued importance in driving fashion trends. Highlighting the consumer’s desire to mix, blend and create the unexpected, the palette showcases the unique nuances of colour expression for the London market. The report also includes four core classic shades. Transcending seasons and providing a foundation to any wardrobe, these core colours can be built upon in tonal stories or amplified with contrasting colours to create a new level of energy for the Spring 2018 season.

“Colour’s increased influence in fashion design is being felt around the world. Designers for both the US and UK markets recognize the need to show more colour in their collections,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute. “We broadened the direction for Spring 2018 to satisfy the growing consumer appetite for flexibility of expression through colour. Unique shades for the London runway convey themes of energy, sophistication and serenity. There are multi-dimensional and grounded hues, while others exude a vibrant breath of fresh air.”

Along with this universally recognized freedom to use colour as a mode of expression, experts at the Pantone Color Institute note that fashion and the people who interact with it, no longer want to limit themselves by following traditional colour guidelines. Untypical spring shades that make for complex and original combinations expand the opportunity for self-expression and communicate the consumer desire to flout the rules and push the boundaries. The colour palette for Spring 2018 is a perfect reflection of this new sentiment.

About the Spring 2018 LFW Color Palette:

“Similar to New York Fashion Week trends, the Spring 2018 colour palette for London showcases an appreciation for the complexity and distinctiveness of colour as well as the appetite for expression through colour, which is something that evolves and can be played with,” said Eiseman. “Consumers are looking for more colour variety. This expanded palette speaks to spontaneous colour usage and embraces the lack of gender and seasonal borders we are seeing embraced within the London fashion industry.”

About the Spring 2018 Classic Colour Palette:

For many consumers, classic colour is the mainstay of the wardrobe and the foundational core upon which they start building their own personal style. “We want to reflect consumers’ increased desire for colour, and felt that if we included these core basics into our top colour call outs, we would be forced to limit the number of colours we thought deserved special attention,” said Eiseman. “At the same time, the core classic shades play a critical role in any wardrobe, and we also want to highlight the nuance of these classic colours for the Spring 2018 season.”
